Hello, and welcome to the 13th edition of Signal Report.
In most weeks the largest cluster in this map is the general conversation about AI security - not a topic inside the field, the field itself, in the abstract.
This week it lost the lead. It has happened once before, and the difference between the two is the story.
On July 7 the hub was displaced by a generic Data Breach/ransomware cluster - AI security absorbed into ordinary breach coverage. This week it was displaced by data, prompt, secret, vulnerability, Microsoft, Copilot: 22% against the hub's 20%, while the hub's grip on the bridges fell from 68% to 54%, its lowest ever.
First time, the field got mainstreamed. This time, it got specific.
The news matched. Researchers showed Microsoft Copilot Personal could be driven by an undocumented URL parameter into exfiltrating data from connected apps, and Grok made to ship private chat data to an attacker's server via instructions hidden inside encryption.
Not "AI security." Named things, with mechanisms.
